Culturereader publishes Culturereader. This policy sets out what visiting culturereader.com involves in data terms, and what you can do about it.
Why We Hold It
Purposes: operating culturereader.com; measuring which of our guides, comparisons and reference pages draw readers; sending the newsletter to subscribers; and supporting advertising where it is displayed.
Email We Send
We use confirmed (double) opt-in for the mailing list, so nobody is subscribed by mistake or by someone else. Unsubscribe links and our postal address appear in every email, and we do not sell or rent the list.
Age Restrictions
The content and the site are for adults. Children under 13, or under 16 depending on jurisdiction, are not the intended audience, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Discovering that we had would prompt deletion.
Keeping Data Safe
Data lifespans are tied to purpose — analytics on the provider’s expiry schedule, email addresses until you leave the list, comments until they are taken down. Protection is by way of restricted access and encrypted transport, applied proportionately. No online service can be perfectly secure.
Others in the Chain
This site may involve a hosting provider, an analytics provider, an email service (only if you subscribe), and advertising partners (only where advertising is served). Some process data strictly on our behalf; advertising and analytics vendors typically act as controllers in their own right.
Data Collected Here
Two kinds of information reach us. The first is automatic: standard server and analytics data such as IP address, approximate location, device and browser details, and which pages of culturereader.com were viewed. The second is whatever you deliberately hand over — a comment, a newsletter signup, or a message you send us.
Specific to Culturereader: we ask readers not to send us sensitive personal details, and we delete rather than retain anything of that kind that reaches us unprompted.
Browser Storage
- Browser storage is dealt with in full by the Cookie Policy, including how to refuse it.
-
Where advertising is served, third-party vendors including Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
Your Options
Readers in the UK and EU have GDPR rights; readers in California and other US states have comparable rights under CCPA/CPRA and similar statutes. In practice this means you can ask to see, correct, delete, or export your data, object to certain processing, and opt out of sale or sharing for advertising. We honour Global Privacy Control. The State Privacy Notice and Do Not Sell or Share pages have the detail.
